VGLS – Light Emitting Diode (LED) Initiative

Current commercial LED lamps do not meet ‘The Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007’ requirements1. To meet future requirements the FAA has determined the most economical approach is to replace the incandescent lamps with a FAA specified LED lamp and to use the existing infrastructure of the 950 FAA supported MALSRs and therefore Patriot Taxiway Industries has developed an approved and tested a form, fit, and function replacement MALSR PAR-38 and PAR-56 LED lamp.  The replacement lamps are now in full production.

The Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 requires FAA to transition incandescent lamps to LED technology. LED technology uses far less energy with much higher reliability, which provides significant cost and efficiency benefits. Current lighting systems use PAR- 38 and -56 lamps that will need to transition to LED lamps.
